Many
people are familiar with a much loved old toy called "Jacob's
Ladder", a little gem which never fails to produce wonder and
delight. Traditionally, 6 or 7 blocks of wood are interwoven with
ribbon to form a "ladder" which behaves in a very odd
way. When you hold the top "rung" and tip it upside down,
the second "rung" seems to detach itself from the rest
and wobble its way from side to side down the ladder. Tip it back
and the next block tumbles to the bottom.
Highland
Games has taken this idea and gone one better. First we created
an ingenious 7 "rung" ladder which folds up as small as
a matchbox. Then we wrapped it in a folding box which turns inside
out and becomes a handle. Magnets hold it closed.

Please
note that we have improved the design in several ways since the
above animation was made. It is now bigger, stronger, and more colourful.
It also incorporates two new optical illusions - on one side the
yellow rectangles seem to rise upwards, whilst on the other, a red
stripe bafflingly jumps from top to bottom and back again.

This
marvel of miniature construction is hand made from 56 wooden parts,
40 nylon hinges and 2 magnets. When folded it measures 50 x 50 x
25 mm (2 x 2 x 1 inches), but fully extended it measures over 430
mm (17 inches). Full instructions are included.
